Charity & Community

We want to support our local community by guiding our students to do what it takes for as long as it takes. By serving relevant local and global charities that align with our own community needs, we will endeavour to strengthen community cohesion and instil positive and caring values. We want all of our students to be involved in charity events and activities throughout their time at Crown Hills so they can fully understand what it means to ‘contribute positively to society’, help the world around them, and experience the joy of helping others.

Litter Picking

As part of our character education, our Year 7s get the opportunity to volunteer to go on a litter pick within our community. They collect as much rubbish as they can and enjoy talking to locals who often give them compliments.

One of our initiatives as a 'Plastic Clever School' is to collect plastic bottle lids on the litter picks and work with Miss Dexter in DT to melt them down in order to be able to make key rings.

Food Bank

As part of our character education, our Year 8s get the opportunity to volunteer to go on a trip to the local foodbank and serve their community. Every term, a group of volunteers head to Wesley Hall Foodbank to help out at their food pantry. They each have different roles, from collecting money, to registering customers, stacking shelves and helping people get their items.

Care Home Visits

As part of our students’ character education, some of our Year 9 students get the opportunity to volunteer at a local care homes. They take the experience in their stride and enjoy chatting to residents. The care home have daily activities for their residents; our students take part in an ‘aspiration’ activity and talk to them about what they would like to be when they grew up and heard all about their careers when they were younger. We hope the visits from our students brightened their days.

BBC Make a Difference Awards

We’re super excited to announce that we won the BBC Make a Difference Community Award ! We won the Make a Difference Award for our all the work our care home volunteers do in local care homes. Our students, parents and staff enjoyed the awards ceremony this half term. We couldn’t be prouder of our students and the compassion they’ve shown to their community.

Sleep Out for the Homeless

As part of our character education, our Year 10s and 11s get the opportunity to volunteer to take part in a 'Sleep Out' to raise awareness around homelessness and what it feels like to sleep outside. They create shelters out of cardboard boxes to sleep in and get to meet with a local homeless charity, The Bridge Homelessness for Hope, to hear real accounts of what it feels like to be homeless.

Whole School Appeals

We are committed to nurturing compassionate, socially responsible young people who understandthe power of giving back. Throughout the year, our whole-school charity appeals offer studentsmeaningful opportunities to support those in need—locally and beyond.

Our annual Christmas Toy Collection for Rainbows Hospice brings our school community togetherto spread joy to children and families facing incredibly difficult circumstances. Likewise, our Help theHomeless – Month of Mercy Ramadan Appeal inspires students to reflect on empathy, solidarity, and the importance of supporting vulnerable members of our society.

As we continue to grow, we will be expanding the range of charitable initiatives available, ensuringeven more opportunities for students to make a positive impact. Through these experiences, ourlearners develop essential values and skills—kindness, leadership, teamwork, gratitude, and a deeperunderstanding of social responsibility. These moments of giving not only support others but also helpshape our students into thoughtful, active citizens of the future.
