Sports Academy

Our aim at Crown Hills is to enhance social mobility, increase cultural capital and improve personal development through our vision and values.

Sport is a central pillar within schools which builds confidence and belief in students. The Sports Academy enables students to fulfil their potential, becoming role models who excel within their sporting context and demonstrate a range of purposeful leadership qualities which aid them for future success. We want our students to be able to compete with the best nationally and internationally, therefore we have created an academy that allows our students to close that gap and help them to compete with the best.

Students can be awarded a place on the Sports Academy programme through meeting the specific Bronze, Silver or Gold level criteria. These are specific to each sporting activity of Badminton, Cricket and Fencing in regards to the consistency and application of physical skills, tactical knowledge and professional conduct. The Crown Hills criteria relates to all sporting criteria and relates to commitment. Students are expected to attend all required training sessions and fixtures, in addition students need to achieve expected commitment scores within Physical Education.

Selected students from Year 7 to 11 will follow a calendared programme of high performance coaching, mentoring and strength & conditioning delivered by a team of expert practitioners through our main partnerships with British Fencing, Leicestershire County Cricket and Badminton England.

  • Coaching - High level coaching provided during and/or after the school day for each individual activity. There is opportunity to refine and develop skills by competing in county and above level competitions.
  •  Mentoring – One-to-one and group mentoring multiple times a year with a designated member of the Sports Academy team.
  • Workshops - These will be based on a range of topics including lifestyle management, goal setting, performance pathways, strength and conditioning, sports nutrition and many more.
  • Enrichment Activities - There will be opportunities for students to broaden their horizons of the sporting world, some examples of enrichment activities include trips to the Yonex All England Badminton Championships as well as an insight into further study sport courses at Loughborough College.
